As with other great fragrances, each bottle is filled and capped by hand, in the manner of Joy by Jean Patou. The bottle is made of fine Italian flint glass by Baralan, a leading glassware supplier to the international fragrance industry. The fragrance is produced for Frank Bush by Robertet of Grasse, one of France's oldest great remaining fragrance houses, headquartered in the heart of the French perfume industry since 1850 — although now operating on a worldwide scale with offices and factories from London to Hong Kong.
The fragrance of P is described as Aromatic Fougére — crisp, or, as the French would say, pétillant. P is distinguished by top notes of cumin, artemisia, basil, bergamot and "green note"; heart notes of juniper, geranium, rose, wormwood, jasmin, carnation and thyme, and basenotes of cedar, patchouli, oakmoss, amber, leather and olibanum (frankincense, which desert nomads burn as an incense). The result is a fragrance that is zesty and masculine in character and quite appealing to women.
The term "fougére" is derived from "Fougére Royal", a men's fragrance composed by Paul Parquet for Houbigant in 1882 which still represents the classic male fragrance. It is commonly described as "fresh" and "herbaceous", relying on moss and fern-like notes.
