An original perfume by our own compounder!
Summer Air
perfume by Lightyears
One sunny day in July the aroma from a small bush that had just been purchased from a local garden center piqued the imagination of our newly minted compounder and led him to create for us a new perfume: Summer Air.
Summer Air was never an attempt to imitate mother nature but it did take its inspiration from that one small bush — although nobody but our compounder has detected a family resemblance between the aroma of that bush and the aroma material used as the central theme for Summer Air.
... from a small garden bush ...
inspiration for a new perfume!
Would you like a pretty, poetic description of the top note, heart note and drydown of Summer Air? Or can we tell you right off that the odorant that provides the strong central theme for Summer Air is 4-Allyl-2-methoxyphenol, also known as 2-methoxy-4-(2-propenyl)phenol?
This being said, we picture most vividly the genteel perfume blogger-reviewer-critic cringing in horror, beginning to choke and cough, and being suddenly shaken by the onset of a previously unknown fragrance allergy that now makes further exploration of Summer Air impossible!
A perfumer might simply mutter, "Spicy, Oriental."
The wonder of a perfume lies
in the results the perfumer achieves
Since the only smell of a web page is the aroma of your computer, and since you can't yet claim an allergic reaction to Summer Air, let me tell you a bit about 4-Allyl-2-methoxyphenol which, for all its synthetic (to non-chemists) sounding name is simply a derivative of an exotic garden shrub, although, like to many other natural source odorants, a clever chemist can also whip up a batch in the laboratory out of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms — oxygen, as in the oxygen we breath, and hydrogen as in what mother nature combines with oxygen to make the very purest drinking water.

Yes, it's really perfume, not medicine!
Now this "theme song" of Summer Air — 4-Allyl-2-methoxyphenol — (also known to the perfumer as Eugenol and the naturopath as Clove Oil) has a variety of uses outside of perfume. Mixed with zinc oxide, it becomes dental cement for temporary fillings. Tobacco companies use it to flavor cigarettes. It is said to repel mosquitoes for up to two hours and help prevent premature ejaculation.
Animal studies suggest it can help lower a fever. In homemade remedies it substitutes for benzocaine. It has found use in the treatment of abdominal pain and allergies and is know as an antiseptic and antihistamine.
Of course all this was unknown to our compounder creating Summer Air.
... judge Summer Air by
the beauty of its composition ...
Summer Air is perfume and, as such, must be judged on the beauty of its composition, its harmony, its tenacity, on the pleasure it gives to the woman who wears it and to those who, consciously or unconsciously experience pleasure as she passes by.
Summer Air is our compounder's tribute, in abstract form, to a small, aromatic bush which, to him, offered up its fragrance on day in July to the warm, sunny summer air.
Summer Air is available now, in a 20ml stoppered glass designer bottle, boxed and ready to please you.
